Publishing Timeline:
-
June 2023 – The Day Trading Edition of Easing Into EasyLanguage – This surprise addition to the series was long overdue. Day trading is a valuable tool for gaining a technical edge due to the lack of overnight risk. However, significant risk still exists between 9:30 and 4:00. This book examines proven day trading concepts such as open range breakouts, momentum and time-based strategies, volatility breakouts, zone trading with Camarilla levels, pyramiding, and more.
-
It also covers trade filtering techniques including range compression, NR4, buy/sell day setups, and time-based analyses by day and week. Since exiting a trade can be just as critical as entry, protective stops, profit targets, trailing stops, and breakeven stops are explained alongside their code. A dedicated chapter discusses scaling into and out of trades, an often-neglected aspect of trade management. Like all my Easing Into… series, the code is fully Multi-Chart compatible.
-
July 2022 – Advanced Topics Edition of Easing Into EasyLanguage – The final book in the series takes programming skills to the next level, covering seasonality, multiple time frames, text graphic objects, and Radar Screen programming. It introduces data structures like hash tables and token generation. The entire codebase is written in basic EasyLanguage, avoiding Object-Oriented EasyLanguage (OOEL).
-
April 2022 – Trend Following Systems – A DIY Project – Batteries Included (2nd Edition) – A Python-centric approach to algorithmic trading. This edition updates and refactors TradingSimula_18 [2022], includes a simple charting package, and revised performance metrics for some of the most notable trend following algorithms from the last two centuries.
-
December 2021 – The HiRes Edition of Easing Into EasyLanguage – The first volume, also called The Foundation Edition, provides newcomers with the essential groundwork for creating trading algorithms. It offers professional guidance on the TradeStation Development Environment and introduces the basics of strategies, PaintBars, ShowMes, and functions. Different backtesting methods are discussed, supported by content in the book and over four hours of instructional video.
-
The Hi-Res Edition equips users with tools and shortcuts necessary for applying trading algorithms to minute bars (high-resolution data). While EasyLanguage remains the same, programming for minute bars requires a completely different approach than daily bars. Algorithms must be adapted to work efficiently with smaller timeframes. All indicators used on daily bars must be recalculated for minute bars, producing significantly different results. This edition shows how to scale and modify ideas accordingly. Additional Notes for Python Book Owners:
For those with the original Trend Following Systems – A DIY Project (1st Edition), updated data for the Python System Back-Tester and TradingSimula-18 can be found at www.trendfollowingsystems.com. Updated software versions are available there as well. If starting fresh, I recommend downloading all Wiley code, then upgrading with the updates and databases from my site.
If you’re interested in learning trading system testing from scratch and want to get started quickly, check out my latest edition, Trend Following – A DIY Project – Batteries Included 2nd Edition. My new website www.trendfollowingsystems.com supports this book.
Update August 2021: I am preparing a new version of TradingSimula-18 with a simplified programming module for a cleaner interface. The system relies on minimal external libraries and can be used soon after downloading, assuming Python is installed.
For recent purchasers, don’t forget to register at www.georgepruitt.com to receive free updates. Version 2.0 of the Python System Back-Tester adds additional performance metrics and enables portfolio batching for multiple markets. A direct link to the latest version will be clearly posted on the site.
