Description
Retirement Planning with the Best of Them
Rising college debt, increasing rental costs, credit card obligations, and lingering caution after the 2008 market crash have caused many in developed countries to delay or reduce retirement savings and investing. In the U.S., this trend is particularly pronounced, with a significant number of individuals postponing investing due to the perception that it’s “too early” or because they are unsure how to invest safely.
-
Over a third of Americans have no retirement savings. Contributing factors include affordability constraints, perceived investment risks (11%), and lack of trust in financial advisors and brokers (7%) (Shekhtman, 2016).
-
Studies by PNC Financial Services highlight that debt from tuition and credit cards creates a substantial barrier to retirement preparedness.
The root of the problem often lies in unfamiliarity with common retirement tools such as employer-sponsored accounts and brokerage investment accounts, as well as limited knowledge about investing in long-term stocks of trusted brands.
Addressing this knowledge gap is crucial. Increased retirement preparedness reduces reliance on part-time work after retirement and mitigates the risks of underfunded government pension programs. Social Security and public pension systems face growing financial challenges globally, with projected shortfalls threatening their ability to provide more than a minimal standard of living. Private pensions are not immune to risk, as evidenced by the Enron collapse, where a large portion of employees’ retirement funds was tied to company stock (Appleby, 2016).
Even a fully funded Social Security program only provides a basic standard of living. Unexpected medical expenses or emergencies in retirement can quickly erode financial security (Elmerraji, 2017).
This course offers a comprehensive foundation in retirement planning, empowering you to:
-
Understand employer-based retirement tools
-
Analyze individual stocks and companies using both fundamental and technical analysis
-
Prepare for more advanced trading, including Day Trading, by understanding the underlying financials of the companies you intend to trade
By the end of this course, you will have the tools and knowledge to make informed long-term investment decisions, setting a strong foundation for financial security in retirement.
