Review
It was a mistake for me to put off purchasing this book because it was very pricey. In essence, it discusses Dow Theory and wave counting, but it does so in a mechanical manner. Of course, Elliot Wave Theory is what I mean when I say wave counting. Anyone who has studied Elliot Wave closely will find that no two people who count waves on a chart over a fair amount of time will get the same result. This book provides an excellent approach for automating the entire procedure. Following his ideas, I created software for Tradestation that counts waves—something I couldn’t find on the market—and used that information to create a highly effective mechanical trading program for the S&P. I chuckled because, as a mechanical systems trader, I never thought I would be able to execute wave counting successfully. This is an excellent little book that is straightforward, narrowly focused, straightforward, and effective. However, as might be expected given that the book was published in 1977, a large portion of it is dated. I do suggest it to everyone who wants to acquire various perspectives for stock market cyclical analysis and who aspires to develop trading strategies based on sound numerical concepts.
